While there is no legal requirement within the UK solely for tethering tools, the HSE Working at Height 2005 guidelines state "every employer shall, where necessary to prevent injury to any person, take suitable and sufficient steps to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, the fall of any material or object.”⠀

Something that so many people tend to think about Something that so many people tend to think about Health and Safety is that it's time-consuming and at times unnecessary.⠀
⠀
Let me let you into a secret.⠀
⠀
It isn't!⠀
⠀
The truth is that it's more time consuming if you don't have everything in place and not to mention expensive if things go wrong. ⠀
⠀
So it's very necessary, but with the right guidance from a qualified professional, it doesn't have to be something that you dread doing.⠀
⠀
Don't wait until it's too late to keep your employees and workers safe.⠀

⠀
Let me know in the comments below. Let's get educated!
I'm pretty sure that by now you're either totally I'm pretty sure that by now you're either totally fed up of hearing about coronavirus, or thanks to the media coverage, scared half to death.⠀
⠀
But as an employer, you DO need to be taking some precautions to ensure you comply with your general duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (‘HSWA’).⠀
⠀
Some steps include:⠀
⠀
✔ Consideration of whether a new or specific risk assessment is required. For the most part, this will depend on the industry and type of business operations.⠀
✔ Review the need, or restrict, work-related travel to areas of high risk and look into alternatives such as video conferencing.⠀
✔ Consult with employees with regard to their personal travel plans, especially if they plan to travel to affected countries.⠀
✔ Ensure any employees returning from affected regions follow government advice, particularly regarding self-isolation.⠀
✔ Minimise the spread of the virus by encouraging employees to follow the NHS advice, particularly in relation to good hygiene and handwashing practices. The display of posters in washrooms and kitchens is also advisable.⠀
